Meet Andromeda!
Andromeda is a curious little mouse! She is very gentle, and loves running around the cage. Andromeda is very active, and is always running on her wheel, or chewing on the SnakShak log I gave her. Andromeda and her sister are like the "middle children" in the tank. Andromeda was born on October 15th. Andromeda is sister to Atalanta. Andromeda is a Greek name I gave her. Andromeda comes from the tale with Greek hero Perseus. In the myths, Andromeda was an Ethiopian princess. Her mom claimed she was more beautiful than Aphrodite or someone. Aphrodite basically told Poseidon to teach her a lesson. The sea monster terrorized their city, the only way to stop it was sacrifice Andromeda, whom was very beautiful and gentle. She was then chained to a rock to be sacrificed to the sea monster of Poseidon, but Perseus saved her. You can pretty much guess they lived happily ever after, blah blah blah. I love Andromeda, and she seems to be the most "Hand Tamable" right now. Another thing I love about her, is that she has a heart shaped grey spot on her rump! |
Curious, Active, Gentle |
Meet Ariadne! Ariadne is a loving mouse, and she is quite active. Ariadne challenges the older mice, (Andromeda &a Atalanta) and she wants to be dominant. However, after The Pecking Order, they have established a healthy relationship together. When I pick her up, Ariadne climbs all over my arms. She is my explorer! Ariadne gets her name from the Greek Heroine Ariadne. She is mostly established with the labyrinth, after giving Theseus a magical ball of yarn so he doesn't get lost. When Theseus kills the Minotaur, he takes her with him. They are in love, but he dumps her on a random island in the middle of nowhere. Real nice, right?! Anyway, Dionysus comes along and rescues her off the island. Ariadne always helps everyone, so I feel she fits in with her namesake just fine. Ariadne is half sister to Andromeda and Atalanta. (Same Father, different Mother) |
Fierce, Protective, Caring |
Meet Asteria! Asteria is a lovely young mouse, and in my eyes, an angel. Her coat of fur is white with lots of black spots. Her whiskers are quite long, and she has a knack for always following around the others, running on the wheel, or ripping apart a toilet paper tube. Her namesake is Asteria, goddess of the stars. (Hence her coat, and personality) Greek Myths state that The Goddess of the Stars was always mellow, and a loving character. That didn't make sense to me, because stars are blindingly bright, searingly hot, and are known for their violent explosion. Asteria, my mouse, is none of those. This explanation was short and sweet, just like her. |
Gentle, Busy, Cute |
Meet Atalanta! Atalanta is a shy, funky mouse! The other day I caught her digging out all of the bedding from around the wheel. After to had mountains of bedding piled up around it, and none under it, she climbed underneath her wheel! It was so funny! She is starting to warm up to me, and that's good! Her favorite thing to do is eat cashews that I feed her. In one of the pictures, you see her eating a cashew. It's hilarious! Atalanta also likes to peek out of the window on their house. One of the things that makes Atalanta unique is all of her grey spots. She has more than her sister Andromeda does. Atalanta also has a black spot on her face, which makes her look a lot different from her sister. Atalanta and her sister hang out together, and what they like doing is playing games of "chase" around the tank. The name "Atalanta" came from one of my favorite Female Greek Heroines. Atalanta was a fierce warrior who was being pawned off to marry someone. Atalanta told her dad; "Hey, I am going to choose who I marry. Whoever can beat me in a foot race can marry me." What she didn't mention was that, if the man gets caught in the race, Atalanta killed him. This happened for months. Then this guy named Hippomemnes...or something....asked the Goddess Aphrodite to help. (Goddess of love and beauty) She gave him three golden apples. When Hippo entered the race, he got ahead. When Atalanta started catching up to him, he threw a golden apple over her shoulder. Atalanta couldn't help it, she went after it. This happened three times, and then the race was done. Hippo was still alive, and Atalanta loved him. No blah blah, happily ever after. (Spoiler alert: they both get turned into lions later) Anyway, I thought the story would interest you. Atalanta is not as fierce as her namesake, but she is pretty protective over her sister. |
